#MicroblogMondays: I Love New York Except…

NYCnov14 (2)I love New York except when the rent is too damn high and continues to soar and there’s no way I’ll ever be able to afford to live there.

I love New York except when the MTA continues to raise its fares and traveling across a borough with my kids becomes too expensive.

I love New York except when the practices of law enforcement are racist and biased, their actions continue to do harm to those they are being paid to protect, and the NYPD has yet to build any trust within the communities they are supposed to be serving.

I love New York except when I’m tired and cold and sore and stressed out and have a million worries on my mind (like Saturday when I took this picture).

New York, I love you, but…

Thanks, as always, to Stirrup Queens for always giving me a reason to post something on Mondays!

Preparing for a storm…

So Hurricane Sandy is upon us. I’ve done all I can do to get us prepped for what may come. We have water, flashlights, candles, and food to last a while in case we lose power. From the look of things, this storm is going to be nasty. Thankfully, I am not on the coast and flooding should not be a concern. I do worry about the old, and very large, trees that surround my house. My fingers will be crossed until this whole thing passes.

People have made some comments today about humor and such a monster storm. That, since this storm had already taken lives and will surely take more, as well as cause massive devastation, that we should not find laughs at any of it. I don’t take this approach. Humor and sarcasm is how I always have, and always will, get through the tough times. So I giggled at the image of the Statue of Liberty crouched behind her pedestal, and the various jokes on twitter, and of course every time Michael Bloomberg attempts to speak Spanish. Laughter is, even at times of impending doom, the best medicine.
